Questions about the questions
FAQ
Everything people ask about Spanzo. If yours is missing, the contact page says where to send it.
The Daily
- When does a new Daily appear?
- At midnight in your own time zone. Daily numbers follow the calendar, so Daily #20 is the same five rounds for everyone, whether they play it in Tokyo or Toronto.
- How long does it take?
- About two minutes: 5 rounds, one guess each. There is no timer, and you can leave and come back; your progress is saved on the server.
- Can I play the same Daily twice?
- No. One attempt per Daily keeps the leaderboard honest and makes a challenge a fair contest. You can replay recent past Dailies from the archive, but only the first finish of each counts for streaks and the board.
- Why are the rounds in that order?
- Each Daily is built to get harder as it goes: at least two accessible rounds, at most two hard ones, never two expert rounds. Five different categories every day, and a question is never reused once it has been a Daily round.
- What is a streak?
- The number of consecutive days you have finished the Daily. Finish today and it grows; skip a day and it resets to zero. It is stored on your device, and across devices if you sign in.
Scoring
- How is a round scored?
- From 0 to 100 by how close your guess lands to the true value on the scale. The curve is steep near the answer and forgiving in the middle: landing within a few percent of the scale width scores 80 or more, a miss of a fifth of the scale scores under 30.
- What counts as a perfect round?
- 100 points. When the true value is itself a range (an animal's speed, a disputed date), any guess inside that range scores 100.
- Can the answer be outside the two anchors?
- Yes, and sometimes it is. The anchors are clues, not limits; you can drag past either of them.
- What do the colours mean?
- Green is spot on or incredibly close (95+), lime is very close (80+), amber close-ish (60+), orange not quite (30+) and red way off. The word and the number are always shown with the colour.Scoring bands in detail
Facts and sources
- Where do the answers come from?
- Every round credits its source on the reveal: the organisation that owns the fact where possible, otherwise an open dataset or a primary document. Facts are checked against that source before a question is approved.
- A value changed since you wrote the question. Which answer is right?
- Questions about moving values (populations, records, prices) state the year in the question, and the reveal shows the date the answer is correct for.
- I think a round is wrong. What do I do?
- Tap Report on the reveal and pick a reason. Reports are reviewed; a wrong question is corrected or retired, and the archive is updated.Contact & support
- Are the questions written by AI?
- Drafting uses software and language-model tools; approval does not. Every question is validated automatically and checked against its cited source before it can appear in the game, and explanations are written in our own words. The process is described on the About page. How the questions are made
Accounts and devices
- Do I need an account?
- No. Streaks, stats, the leaderboard and challenges all work as a guest. Signing in with an email link keeps your streak and stats across devices and attaches Pro to you. There is no password.
- I lost my streak after clearing my browser.
- Guest progress lives on that device. Sign in before switching devices or clearing data and it follows you.
- Is it accessible?
- Touch, mouse and keyboard (arrow keys move the marker, Enter locks it). Every colour has a text label. A reduce-motion setting lives on the Stats page. Please tell us about anything that does not work for you.
Challenges and the leaderboard
- How do friend challenges work?
- When you finish, you get a link to the exact same five rounds. Anyone who opens it plays them, no account needed, and the result shows who was closer on each round. If they had not played that Daily yet, it counts as their Daily too.
- Can my friend see the answers from the link?
- No. The invitation shows your score and abstract accuracy meters, never where you placed your guesses or what the answers were.
- Who is on the leaderboard?
- The top 50 scores of the current Daily, with a name only if the player chose one. Your rank and percentile appear once you finish; the percentile is shown once at least 30 people have finished.
Pro and payments
- What is Pro?
- Unlimited solo play (Endless mode), category runs, every past Daily instead of the last 3 days, and no ads. 4.99 dollars a month or 39.99 a year, cancel any time.Spanzo Pro
- Does Pro give an advantage?
- No. Pro never buys points, hints or an easier Daily, and Endless mode uses a separate question pool, so it can never reveal a future Daily answer.
- How do refunds work?
- Ask within 14 days of a charge and you get a full refund, no questions asked. Purchases are handled by Lemon Squeezy as merchant of record; reply to your receipt or email us.Terms of service
- Why do I see ads?
- They pay for free play. Ads appear only outside the five rounds (on results, stats, the leaderboard and this kind of page), never on a phone while you are guessing, and never for Pro players. Choosing Essential on the cookie notice keeps them non-personalised.Privacy policy
